Jennifer Hudson is an actress, singer, and Grammy Award-winner. Born in the South Bronx to African American parents, she auditioned for "American Idol" in season 3 and made it into the show before being eliminated. After being rejected from "Idol", she received a call back to audition for "Dreamgirls." The movie was a box office hit, earning Jennifer an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. After her acting stints on Broadway and TV shows like "Parenthood," Jennifer began her music career with the release of I Remember Me in 2009—a collection of songs that included solo recordings as well as collaborations with other artists like Diddy-Dirty Money. Her second studio album, "I Remember Me, Vol. 2," was released in October 2010. The album features collaborations with artists like Alicia Keys, Nas, Lil Wayne and Mary J. Blige among others. Hudson's third studio album, "Jennifer Hudson", was released in November 2011 and features the hits "J-O-I-N-E" and "What's It Gonna Be." Jennifer is married to David Otunga (who used to be on the show WWE Wrestler). They have 2 daughters together; daughter Bobbi Kristina (born January 31, 2007) and daughter Maxwell (born February 23, 2012). In late 2008, the American Library Association selected Hudson's song, I Remember Me from her debut album, to be included in its list of the One Hundred Most Frequently Challenged Books of the decade. In March 2013, Hudson made a guest appearance on "The Arsenio Hall Show". In June 2014, she appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and performed a duet with Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Hudson is best known for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls and she went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards for this role. Hudson's music recording career started when she decided it was time to embark on the process. She said, "I always loved music growing up, since I was three or four years old. I used to sing around my neighborhood for food money. I loved my older brother (Trevante), who's in the music business; he was my inspiration to do it. He taught me how to play instruments and start writing songs, and I started singing at church when I was three years old." Hudson made her Broadway debut in the 2008 musical "Holler if Ya Hear Me," which ran from March 10, 2008 until October 1, 2008. The record label that was distributing her album announced that Hudson would be taking a break to focus on other projects. Upon getting back into the business, Hudson stated, "I just wanted to take a break because I just wanted to focus on other things in my life. I needed to keep out of the music industry for a year or so." After deciding it was time again for her music to come out, she said, "I felt so strongly about it—the whole process of writing and putting it together. cfa1e77820
